High Meadow

High Meadow Local Nature Reserve is an area of sloping chalk grassland and scrub grazed by Exmoor ponies, which rises above Buckland hospital in Dover. From the eastern end there are views of Dover Castle, the English Channel and the French coast.

The site is easily accessible on foot from Dover town centre and is only a ten-minute walk from Dover Priory train station. The site is managed on behalf of Dover Town Council. 

Things to look out for

Small blue, Adonis blue, small heath and wall brown butterflies; common spotted, fragrant and pyramidal orchids, pink marjoram, yellow ox-eye daisy and yellow hay rattle; kestrels and ravens.

Parking: No on-site parking. On street parking available nearby.

Accessibility: Uneven surfaces, steps and kissing gates.

Facilities: No on-site facilities.

Dogs: Welcome. Please use leads in livestock areas.

Nearest bus stop: Northbourne Avenue (Route 63)

Other information: Please be aware of grazing animals.
