Ranger, Samphire Hoe Country Park

£23,388 - £26,807 per annum

Are you passionate about the natural world? Do you want to make a difference to one of the most iconic landscapes in the UK and one of its more unusual country parks and nature reserves? Then this opportunity may be for you…

We are currently looking to recruit an outgoing and positive individual to join our team and assist with the management of Samphire Hoe Country Park, which was created from the spoil of the Channel Tunnel and is now teeming with wildlife and a centre for outdoor learning and events.

Working alongside our team of rangers and volunteers, you will undertake a varied range of tasks from day-to-day, including: habitat management; visitor engagement and management; infrastructure maintenance and repair; and wildlife surveying.

What we need from you

With over 100,000 visitors a year, the job can be challenging and rewarding, and applicants will need to demonstrate their experience of working with the general public in busy environments and their ability to keep calm under pressure. You may have experience of managing visitors on a busy public site.

You should be able to demonstrate your interest and passion for the natural world and commitment to a career in wildlife conservation. You will have excellent written, verbal and non-verbal communication skills, and have experience of working with and/or leading volunteers.

The majority of the work involves being outdoors in all weathers and you will need to be able to undertake physical work on difficult terrain.

Outgoing and self-motivated, you will be able to work flexibly and under your own initiative as well as part of a team. You will be computer literate and hold a full, clean driving licence.
